Ther Ertl Company was started in 1945 in the basement of Fred Ertl, Sr.'s home. He began making toy tractors by melting aluminum aircraft pistons in the furnace of his home and pouring it into sand molds. His sons assembled the tractors and his wife painted them. The little business progressed because of the family's attention to detail and quality workmanship.

This is a replica of the original sand cast "A" tractor that provided the foundation for the beginning of the Ertl Company. Today, the Ertl Company is one of the largest international toy companies in the United States.
